WITEA-ID – ENHANCING 4 IN’S IN DIGITAL TEACHING PRACTICES

«Under the WITEA-ID umbrella, the Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik hosted and organized a training course and seminar on Enhancing digital teaching practices that took place from 29 to 31 March 2023. This seminar has presented results from the WITEA-ID project that draws on existing and emerging digital and international mobility competencies and skills needs in higher education. Additionally, it shared examples of and experiences of innovative practices as well as knowledge and ideas about digital teaching in an international environment. During a two-and-a-half day programme a mix of on location and hybrid activities have been organised.

The programme started with the welcome reception on the 29th March, followed by the city tour of Dubrovnik city centre with the licenced guide.

The following day, the programme was introduced by Prof. Wieger Bakker, dr. Michaela Menšíková and Nada Bruer Ljubišić. It was followed by the presentation of Prof. Senka Maćešić, Vice-rector for digitalization from University of Rijeka on the Virtual campus of University of Rijeka.  The following presentation was by dr. Francois Lategan from Mendel University on Digitalizing skills and competences for successful international mobility – the case of the WITEA-ID e-Toolkit. The morning programme was concluded with the presentation of Drs. Jan Haarhuis from Utrecht University on A mobile European University: Charm EU. After a lunch break Mr. Alkinoos Zourmpakis from University of Crete held a workshop on Utilizing tools, aps and gamification platform in K12 SCIENCE Education. This was followed by a second workshop held by Mr. Boudewijn Grievink from We are Katapult on Empathy map for VET school educationThe day was concluded with the presentation of Dr. Emily Kraus from DePaul University on a Global Conversation programme.

On the 31 March the programme started with the presentation from Daan Fraanje and Geertje Agricola, from Utrecht University on Innovation at Educate-it: tools, added value, didactic and technical support for the teachers. It was followed by the third workshop, held by Dr. Stamatios Papadakis from University of Crete on Programming Environment that promote Critical Thinking for students – (MIT App Inventor). After a short break Drs. Nanette Verhulst and Minke Brinkman from Educate-IT of Utrecht University presented   Teacher development and Future Learning Spaces. The morning session was concluded with the fourth workshop held by Dr. Marios Paraskevupoulos from Novel Group on Digital teaching methodology from pre to post-Covid era; Building skills for the 21st century job market. After the lunch break the programme continued with the presentation of Prof. Nenad Judaš from University of Zagreb on E-schools in Croatia. The following was the training session on WITEA-ID open access web-based toolkit, held by Dr. Francois Lategan, Ludmila Floková, Dr. Ivo Zdráhal and Katerina Mlejnková from Mendel University on Pathways through scientific mobility skills toolkit. The programme was concluded by a last workshop held by Prof. Wieger Bakker from Utrecht University and Nada Bruer Ljubišić from Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik on IUC – Fostering a Birthplace of Ideas.

The programme was hybrid. Part of the presenters were on site in Dubrovnik, part took part online. Also, some participants were present online, some on site. Due to the hybrid organization of the event, presenters were using different digital tools to ensure interaction with participants (Mentimeter, Padlet, Wooclap), while numerous other digital tools were presented as well (Kahoot, Quizzes, Miro, App Inventer, ScratchJr,…) while a special attention was given to the WITEA-ID toolkit on international mobility competences and digital skills. Besides introducing the digital tools and their functionalities, presenters also accentuated some concrete tips in order to establish in-depth communication with participants in different international digital programmes such as empathy maps, breakout rooms, virtual whiteboards, etcEach presentation, workshop and training session was followed by different questions and discussions.

All presentations were recorded and would be made available online when presenters approve.

The programme was attended by 58 participants (39 on site and 19 online) from 13 different countries (Albania, Bangladesh, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Serbia and United States).­­»
